If you check out my website or have read much of this blog, you know I am really into taking the raw brass American-made stampings and applying my own patina to them....even though I sell more of the plated stuff than the raw.
IT'S JUST SO MUCH FUN....largely non-toxic, even eco-friendly for the most part! And one way to take a piece of stamped brass and TOTALLY make it your own.
Not long after I went up to the lake to take my day class with Linda and Opie, I came up with this cool bracelet. I used the vinegar and salt solution discussed on earlier pages of this blog, but I went a step farther: Besides letting the verdigris come up as the brass cooled out of the oven, I enhanced it with just a little tiny bit of Rub and Buff and some of Tim Holtz' Distress Inks (we sell them on the site at http://www.bsueboutiques.com). Then, instead of sealing with matte spray lacquer as I have done alot in the past, I sealed it with RENAISSANCE WAX, which is a wonderful microcrystalline wax you apply by hand and buff out. It is quite permanent, a little fume-y so if you use it, use with ventilation or use Turtle Wax instead which doesn't tend to stink you out.
Here you'll find pix front and back, wish I had one of it WORN by someone, that's when you get the real sense of it....but still worth showing you this way:
and the back, so you can see more of the mechanics of it:
