Had myself some fun today with a simple unplated, raw brass locket finding. It's made in the USA, solid brass, made in the transitional Art Deco style. You can see it here in the photo, top right hand corner.
You'll find at B'sue Boutiques here:
I've carried this locket off and on for many years, but this time I decided to simply get them in the unplated brass as the design and colorization possibilities are ENDLESS, that way.
In the center is one that was REALLY fun. I have been tinkering a lot with old caps. I used the Stella Artois cap and set it into a 30mm brass ox lace edged bezel.
I added a little patina to the locket with my torch. I made a handy video.....this will help if you have not done that before:
Before adding anything else to it, I banged down the front of the locket carefully as it is VERY slightly domed....in order to get the bezel to glue nice and flush, the top needed to be, as well. Just be careful when you do that, so you don't throw the lock off kilter (as it won't close, then). Be gentle and just lower it a *little*.
I then added the Stella Artois bezel, with some of the bottom loops pulled out to add dangles. This is how it looks on the back:
I also added a little Gilder's Paste Patina to the edges and loops and a bit inside the cap. To seal, I used Krylon Matte Spray lacquer on the back, and a bit of Jewelry Shield over the top of the cap where I accented with Gilder's.
This is a cutie:
I torch patina'd the locket then added the cat and puffy heart charm.....drilled the paw (ouch) and tube riveted it, I like to finish off my holes.
We don't have that Garden Gate puffy just now, but we do have this one, same size, same era:
and here is the kitty.....this stamping comes from an old French die. His face is so expressive!
I used an Art Nouveau stamping I had lying about to make this locket:
First, I did torch patina, then accented with Gilder's Paste in the Patina share. Then I sealed with Krylon Satin Glaze (spray lacquer). That's why it's just a tiny bit glossy.
This last one, I torch patina'd, sealed with Krylon Matte and glued on this 25x18mm lace edge bezel mounted with this pretty resin hummingbird cameo:
More cameos here:
We have so many nice cameo choices, including a lot of fairy cameos!
I can't wait to have a bit of time to figure out how I want to finish my pendants. Usually I like to bead a chain, but I'm gonna ruminate on it first!
You might like to give this a go! Awhile ago I found out that there are only two locket makers left in the USA......this locket is from one of the makers. US made brass means quality, and the die is genuine, not copied. It's the same old machine tools that made this piece back in the 20's and 30's!
