Jewelry, I have plenty of....although I would rather buy more stuff to make jewelry and just plain buy jewelry. Jewelry is always great; you don't worry about fit so much, there's always something a chubby gal can find to wear and delight, or a new idea she can put together and show off.
SO....I had a twenty percent off coupon. Since I have wrecked so many of my tops with inks, paints and coffee, I figured, hey. Let's start easy. Let's go see if we can find some cute summer tops to wear down at the shop.
I figured, hey, maybe this old lady can find something to make her look sassy.
Yeah I ruined this top.
Well.....I found ONE top at Penney's. ONE. I tried on 20 at least. Flimsy fabric, ugly huge splashy prints, too low, too sheer, too short, just UGH.
Yeah, as ugly as the old workshop was. Uglier.
So I gave up. Decided I'd go over into the dress department, I have some weddings this summer, figured I'd have a look.
Again, huge splashy prints, awful fabrics, too short, too flimsy, poor quality, huge ugly explosed zippers (I guess that's the style now) ....It looked like the 70's threw up on everything. Scuse me. But honestly....
The seventies were better.
I wish I had time to sew.
Or maybe I am just stuck in another day and time when people got dressed up, liked quality, pretty things, had style. (Not that I have style, but hey. At least I care about it.)
Pinterest, take me away! Look at these lovelies....I had no problem finding pretty things to sigh and swoon over in the Pinterest department!
This is a Vionnet gown from 1922. All I'd need is some Gatbsy-style jewelry. And it's my color, too.
1910's Irish crochet wedding dress....it needs a liner, maybe it wore out, many times they did. How pretty is this?
NOW THAT!!! is lace. LACE! How inspiring is THIS? I don't have the waist for it, but hey. At least it's drool-worthy.
STYLE. Early 50's Dior. I'm no fashion history expert, but I think they called this the New Look....a very different shape and fit in the early 50's after the 40's where they had to be more spare on fabric because of the war effort.
Hey, there's a coat with some Jersey-style flair (animal prints....or maybe I just watch too much Jerseylicious on the Style network). 1940's
True flapper style.....it would be so FUN to make jewelry to go with this. Maybe sometime at the B'sue Boutiques Creative Group we will pick a vintage dress on Pinterest and say...okay...make jewelry to go with this. Sounds fun!
ANYWAY.....I'm still shopping. It was only one store. But they sure don't make clothes like they used to.
BTW....I got the pix here:
I totally agree! That's partly why I got into making upcycled garments; sweatercoats, tops, armwarmers & such. I can make something the way I want it.
BTW, that black Dior dress makes me weak in the knees. What a classic beautiful style! That would look great on any figure...well, most at least.

I can see you in the Vionnet gown!! Gorgeous! Designing jewelry for an outfit or dress is a great idea too.

Oh, my GOODNESS! I feel your pain and relate completely with your shopping (nightmare) experience. You made me laugh with your comment about today's clothing styles, colors, prints, etc.! Sheer ugly :(
Being tall, chubby, mid-fifties and built like an ironworker just doesn't mesh with today's fashions - LOL. So, I think I'll have to break out the sewing machine and make time to sew some basic, classic pieces. Thanks for the great post!
